The Future

 Another Album!

A few months ago Garry posted this……

After the fun of creating the very first Gravel Camp album, The Gravel Camp ...finally!, Garry has decided to continue the band’s story by recording a new album, hopefully in the summer of 2021. All the guys who helped on the ...finally! album have said they would love to help make another, so we all hope to work together later this year and do some recording. The idea is to make an album consisting of songs that The Gravel Camp used to play way back in 1965.

A couple of months ago Garry and Steve May had a conversation and came up with a list of almost 50 songs that the band used to do. Garry hopes to record around 14 or 15 of them for the album. These are songs by great Rhythm and Blues artists like Jimmy Reed, Muddy Waters and Chuck Berry, who were such a huge influence on the band.

Now Garry can announce that ten songs were recorded in August and September of 2021 and they are now ready for album release!! First Garry traveled down to the West Country in England to catch up with old friends Rick Payne and Peter Tyler both excellent musicians who Garry has played with off and on for the last forty years!! Rick is a brilliant slide blues guitar player and Pete excels on the bass guitar. We all met up in a AXE Studios in Wells, Somerset and recorded a version of Louisiana Blues, an old Muddy Waters tune from 1950. Then Garry headed back home to the North East of England to meet his engineer buddy Steve Cunningham, who mastered the track. Here Garry met a new honorary Gravel Camper! He is Martin E. Fletcher, who is a brilliant harmonica player. He laid down the perfect harp track to finish the song off!

Garry recently had a video made of the band playing Louisiana Blues and you can find it on the HOME page! I hope you all enjoy it!

Nine further tracks were recorded with Steve Cunningham at BoomChang Studios in Newcastle.

The tracks are:

Around and Around (Chuck Berry)

Roadrunner (Bo Diddley)

Shame, Shame, Shame (Jimmy Reed)

Hi Heel Sneakers (Tommy Tucker)

Mojo Working (Muddy Waters)

Big Boss Man (Jimmy Reed)

You Can’t Judge a Book (Bo Diddley)

Baby Please Don’t Go (Muddy Waters)

Gloria (Them)

The musicians who worked on these songs are: Stevie Hutchinson (Keyboards), Garry Youll (Guitar), Peter Tyler (Bass), Steve Cunningham (Bass), Martin Fletcher (harmonica) and me, Garry Cosgrove (Drums and Vocals). See the pics below!

Garry is currently working on copyrights in order to release the songs on Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes etc. The album will be called “The Gravel Camp ’65 Revisited”.

At the moment there are no definite plans to record any more tracks, but you never know. There are plenty more great songs from that era, so maybe a 4 track EP might be recorded. Watch this space!

 The Gravel Camp ...LIVE!!

Garry has always wanted to play a gig using the songs written by the band along with some of the songs it played back in 1965. He is currently in talks with a local promoter to set up a Rock and Blues weekend, which would feature The Gravel Camp along with other bands.

Again, this is in its early stages, but Garry will keep everyone informed of developments.
